PSG without winter recruit after an imbroglio around Ziyech’s contract

PSG thought they had their recruit for the winter of 2023 in the person of Hakim Ziyech. But an administrative problem blocked the validation of the transfer. The Professional Football League finally rejected the club’s appeal on Wednesday morning.

Definitely, a month of January to forget for PSG. The current Ligue 1 leader finds himself at the end of the winter transfer window without a recruit, the fault of an administrative imbroglio around the loan of Moroccan Hakim Ziyech.

Until the last minutes of the evening, everything seemed in order for Ziyech’s arrival at PSG. The 29-year-old was in Paris, had passed his medical examination, his club had agreed to a loan without an option to buy which would have saved the sluggish transfer window of PSG…

The appeal dismissed

But everything finally went wrong: according to two sources with knowledge of the file, Chelsea made several errors in the transmission of the administrative documents necessary for the approval of the contract of the international winger… Documents which finally arrived too late, arousing anger in internal to Paris.

The Professional Football League (LFP) had given the clubs until 11 p.m. to send the contracts, then midnight to register their transfers in the software dedicated to international transfers (Fifa TMS)… A timed and uncompromising schedule.

After an appeal from PSG, the Moroccan’s case was examined by the LFP’s legal commission, meeting this Wednesday morning. the latter rejected the request for approval of the loan issued by the Parisian club.

PSG therefore finds itself without a winter recruit, an unlikely situation for its wealthy Qatari owners, even more two weeks before the knockout stages of the Champions League against Bayern Munich, while the results are slipping.

Because in defense, Paris also missed the expected signing of the Slovak Milan Skriniar, Inter Milan preferring to let him go free at the end of the season, rather than giving him up at the end of January without having found his replacement.

At the end of the evening, PSG also agreed to let their No. 2 goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, go on loan to Nottingham Forest.
