The deal with top English clubs for billions continues: Tottenham Hotspur may be facing a takeover.

As the Financial Times and Reuters report, billionaire Jahm Najafi is showing interest in the club. It should be about a bid of around 4.2 billion euros. Investors from Abu Dhabi are to contribute 30 percent of the purchase price.

The market in England is on the move: Chelsea has just been sold to an American investment group by the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. The owners of Manchester United and Liverpool FC were open to bids in the billions.

Bids are collected, competition is still possible

As with Chelsea, the American Raine Group is reportedly collecting bids for Tottenham. The American-Iranian billionaire Najafi could still have competition if it is sold at all. The current majority owner of the club since 2001 is the British entrepreneur Joe Lewis.

Tottenham created a modern stadium and is in the top flight of the Premier League. Aside from the 2008 League Cup, the club didn’t win any major titles. Spurs won their last English championship in 1961.
