Objective: close the Palco dels Sastres

A little higher, a little lower; in Second B, Third and First; a Vistalegre and also to Montilivi. The reality is that the popular Tailors stage has accompanied Girona for more than a hundred years. In fact, since 121 years ago, when the Vistalegre stadium was inaugurated in 1922 and immediately, the hill behind was filled with spectators watching the match without paying. Since then, both in the old field until now, a First Division in Montilivi, there was never a lack of the small group of supporters on the sidelines watching the game for free. The special orography of the two stadiums allows this and the attempts of the Girona F.C. to prevent it, with tarpaulins in recent years or by planting trees, in the last century.

The Palco dels Sastres is now back in the news because with the team in Primera, the last games have been filled to the brim, especially since the visit of Barça. Well over a hundred people have seen the matches lately in this sector, in addition to those who are placed inside the courts of the Sports Service of the University of Girona. In fact, on Monday evening a report of more than three minutes from Día Después on Movistar Plus put even more evidence of the problem it has – in this case not Girona, because the grounds where the people are not theirs – but the City Council and the University. In this sense, today the three parties met together with the Mossos d’Esquadra to try to put a thread on the needle and solve the matter. At the moment, everyone’s disposition is good and there is harmony, although no specific proposal has come out of the meeting. Of course, it shines through from the council the will to find a package of immediate measures to then explore more definitive ones in the long term. It will be necessary to see if for the next match at home, against l’Almeria from today with eight in the evening, they are already applied.

The meeting was profitable and shows the will of all parties to remedy a dangerous situation. In this sense, the meeting was technical and included several heads of area and members of different departments of urban planning, sports, sustainability and the mayor’s office, in addition to representatives of the University, the Mossos and Óscar Orozco , head of security, and Alfonso Ferrer, operations director of Girona.

«Murrileft out of understanding, with ability especially to deceive. Being a bird, in Spanish». This is one of the meanings of the word «tailor» that appears in the Catalan-Valencian-Balearic dictionary ofAlcover Moll and that makes clear the reason why the spectators who watched the Girona games from the hill behind Vistalegre without paying were named. The club has always tried a thousand things to ensure that these tailors could not watch the games for free. From lones a few years ago to plant trees there makes more I remembered Jordi Vilamitjana in an article in this newspaper in November 2008 that “the club defended itself from Vistalegre’s furtive spectators by planting trees around the field but since they were deciduous and much of the season takes place in the winter, the effectiveness of the visual barrier was very scarce».

The area where the tailor fans are located is a bit above the traditional one in Montilivi and has been disabled by the club with fences and security members. The previous slope was damaged by the storm glory and the city council worked there to apply stabilization measures to prevent new landslides. Mobility for pedestrians and cyclists was also improved with an access road with railings and light points. The work lasted half a year and entailed the movement of 1,115 cubic meters of earth and clearing an area of 1,096 square meters.
