NFL: Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert undergoes shoulder surgery

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert underwent left shoulder surgery last week.

Herbert, a right-hander, however, should be ready for the team’s spring activities, starting in mid-April.

The team announced Sunday that Herbert had surgery on his left shoulder labrum on Jan. 25.

Herbert’s name had appeared on the Chargers’ injury report ahead of the season finale, Jan. 8 against the Denver Broncos. Victim of a left shoulder injury, Herbert had nevertheless taken part in all the team’s activities in the days preceding the match.

The Chargers made the playoffs for the first time since Herbert joined the team in 2020. They were eliminated by the Jacksonville Jaguars in a first-round game after leading by 27 points in the first half.

Herbert finished second in the NFL in completions (477) and passing yards (4,739) this season. He was named as a reserve for the Pro Bowl games, but he will not be able to participate.
