The interview with Manuel Neuer continues to cause a stir. Now Eintracht Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche criticizes the goalkeeper of FC Bayern. And demands Kevin Trapp as a goalkeeper in the national team.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche has clearly spoken out in favor of Kevin Trapp as the new regular goalkeeper in the German national soccer team and has clearly criticized the injured Manuel Neuer for his recent interview statements.
On the TV station BILD, Krösche Sunday answered the question of whether Trapp should now be the new number one in goal for the German selection after Neuer’s failure: “Yes, I would say that. In terms of his performances, he is currently the best German goalkeeper.”
Krösche noted that Neuer had made outstanding achievements over the years. “But after the injury, I think the situation is relatively clear. Kevin has to be in goal,” emphasized the 42-year-old. Trapp is likely to compete in the German national team with Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona for the number one position.
At the same time, Krösche expressed a lack of understanding for Neuer’s actions, who in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and “The Athletic” had sharply criticized the club management of FC Bayern for separating from his goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. “These are issues that shouldn’t happen. Ultimately, individuals must not put themselves above the club. No player in the world is allowed to do that,” said the Frankfurt official.
The newcomer, who was missing for a long time after a broken leg, said that the separation from Tapalovic was “the most blatant” thing he had experienced in his career. “It was a blow for me when I was already on the ground. I felt like my heart was being ripped out.”
Krösche is sure that Eintracht goalkeeper Trapp would never make such statements publicly. He would not condone such behavior either. “The club is always the most important thing, so I would have a serious conversation,” he said. Bayern boss Oliver Kahn and Munich’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic had already announced that they wanted to do this in the Neuer case.
“Relationship a little closer”
Trapp can understand the annoyance of the 36-year-old Neuer after Tapalovic’s forced departure from FC Bayern. “The relationship between the goalkeeper and the goalkeeping coach is a bit closer,” said Trapp on Sky on Saturday evening after beating Hertha BSC 3-0. That’s why he can imagine how Neuer’s emotional state is. Frankfurt’s goalkeeping coach Jan “Zimbo” Zimmermann is also a close friend of his, Trapp said.
Trapp did not want to comment on the way the subject was publicized by the media: “That’s Manuel’s thing, if he had the feeling that he had to get rid of it, then so be it.”
