National team – frequent cruciate ligament tears: Däbritz relies on “more research”

Marbella (SID) – The increase in cruciate ligament tears among top soccer players makes national player Sara Däbritz thoughtful. “That’s striking,” said the midfielder from Olympique Lyon on the sidelines of the DFB team’s training camp in Marbella. It is therefore “simply important to invest even more in research, because the female body is different from the male body.”

Giulia Gwinn had recently suffered her second cruciate ligament rupture in the DFB team, before that Dzsenifer Marozsan was affected. World footballer Alexia Putellas (Spain) was hit just before the EURO, followed by European Championship top scorer Beth Mead (England) and Oranje star Vivianne Miedema after the tournament.

Däbritz himself suffered this knee injury at the end of 2019. “Preventive exercises are important, I still do them so that the muscles are stable,” reported the 28-year-old, who had to have ankle surgery last fall because ligaments were “mended”.

But since January she has been “fully involved” again and at the start of the World Cup year she is back with the national team. After moving within France from Paris St. Germain to record champions Lyon after the European Championship, she quickly settled in. She feels “incredibly comfortable” with the Champions League winner, emphasized Däbritz: “I was able to develop again in a new environment and I’m looking forward to all the tasks that lie ahead.”
