Milan Menten dislocates shoulder during celebration in Le Samyn: “I cheered a bit too crazy” | GP Samyn

Milan Menten will not regret his transfer to Lotto-Dstny. In his first race on Belgian soil, he immediately sprinted to victory in the GP Samyn. “A dream”, reacts Menten, who dislocated his shoulder during his celebration. “I had to celebrate and yell ‘ouch’ at the same time.”

“My shoulder? A bit stiff, still”, laughs Milan Menten after his victory in Le Samyn.

After the sprint, the Lotto Dstny rider “cheered a little crazy”, causing his shoulder to dislocate.

“I braked with my other hand as quickly as possible and pushed everything into place. I now know how to do that, because it has happened before.”

“I had to cheer and yell ‘ouch’ at the same time”, Menten concludes. “That took away the pain in the legs a bit.”

“Shift work put me in a seat”

“I can hardly believe it”, says an emotional Milan Menten after his first victory at Lotto Dstny.

“I came back sick from the Ruta del Sol, so I was with a lot of question marks at the start today. It seems like a dream to be able to win here.”

“The team told me to wait patiently for the sprint,” says Menten. In a hectic final – with a crash at Soudal-Quick Step and some elbow work from Hofstetter – the 26-year-old sprinter remained the calmest.

De Lie raises the level in the team, which makes guys like me want to show themselves.

Menten made the switch to Lotto-Dstny last winter. He certainly does not forget to thank his new employer.

“My teammates made the race hard, which was an ideal scenario for me. Because of Campenaerts’ executioner work, I was in a seat,” Menten shares. “A finish like that suits me very well, especially after a hard race.”

“The team is a big group of friends. Arnaud De Lie really raises the level. That has a positive effect on riders like me, who want to show themselves to enforce their place in the team.”
