Mavericks won’t settle for Kyrie Irving trade

The trade deadline works more or less like a game of dominoes. Once one of them has fallen, others follow. The transfer of Kyrie Irving at the Dallas Mavericks doesn’t mean you’ve seen it all. This is, on the contrary, only the beginning.

Moreover, the Texas franchise itself does not intend to stop there, according to Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News. It would intend to activate before February 9 to strengthen its workforce. The Mavs must surround Luka Doncic and their new point guard to maximize his title chances.

With the arrival of a ball carrier of the caliber of Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr is more than ever on the starting line. The full-back has already been mentioned in several negotiations and could change tunes soon.

This season, Hardaway is averaging 13.7 points on 34.9 percent on three-point range, but just 37.7 percent shooting. His salary, with 17 million dollars per year until 2025, is however an obstacle to his trade. But it’s also one of the reasons Dallas hopes to part ways.

Kyrie Irving, the risky bet of the Mavericks

Christian Wood, author of a very good season, could also leave the Mavericks bench. The interior is of interest to several franchises, including the Clippers, is already at the heart of many rumors.

Wood this season averages 18.4 points and 8.4 rebounds on 53.5 percent shooting, including 38.5 percent from three-pointers. A significant offensive contribution, in 29 minutes per game, which makes him a player of great value. Having not yet managed to agree with the front office on a contract extension, his upcoming free agency is also pushing him towards the exit.

Of course, the Mavericks will probably not hesitate to transfer Davis Bertans if they have the chance. But that is more of a utopia. We must, however, keep our eyes on Dallas, before and after the trade deadline.
