Legazpi : Great judo events in Legazpi

Tuesday, February 21, 2023

The coming months are loaded with important events for the Legazpi Judo Club and for our town.

For several weeks now, Legazpi has been collaborating closely with the Gipuzkoa Judo Federation in organizing various competitions. In addition to collaborating, the Legazpi club has been represented in the last two, held in the municipality itself. Specifically, they have been two of the three qualifying phases of the Gipuzkoa Children’s Championship, in which, depending on the result of the fights, points are obtained to reach the final, which will take place on March 12, predictably, in Errenteria. In these phases, Legazpi had a dozen of its children’s judokas competing: Marcos Calvo, Oier Gil, Haitz Ezpeleta, Oier Astorkia, Ibai Saralegi, Urko Osinalde, Oinatz Lazkanoitirburu, Aiur Berasategui, Iñigo Arakama, Igor Fernández and Urko Betolaza. “All of them have done a brutal job, although, as is logical, the difference between the first-year infants, born in 2010, and the second-year ones, born in 2009,” they point out from the Legazpiarra club. «For the youngest, this season is and has to be, a time of learning and adaptation to technology and the new Children’s category. Since in fry, for them everything was more informal and more playful, while now, in infants, modernization begins to gain strength in training and in competition, because the final goal is the Spanish Children’s Championship, while that only the gold medals from Euskadi attend, ”they explain.

Another of the firsts this year is the choice of Legazpi for the celebration of the Euskadi Children’s Championship by the Basque Government. It will be April 1st. The Basque Federation has taken advantage of the pull to hold, that same day, the Euskadi Cadet Championship in our town. Both will be held at the Urbeltz pediment. In both, the Legazpi Judo Club will have a wide participation.

As if that were not enough, before the third phase of the Gipuzkoa Children’s Championship and the Euskadi Cadet Championship, Legazpi will also host the second ‘Legazpiko Herria’ International Children’s Judo Tournament on March 4 in the afternoon, also at the Urbeltz fronton. “We will carry it out with the collaboration, among others, of the City Council, the Judo federations of Gipuzkoa and Euskadi, Sustraiak Fruta Denda, the MKL studio and the artisans Almudena Fernández and Nagore Bengoetxea, who will make the prizes by hand”, they point out from the legazpiarra club
