With a Katty Martínez who reappeared as a starter to celebrate a goal, América thrashed Atlético de San Luis 3-0 to jump, momentarily, to second place in the general table of the Mx Women’s League at the start of the Day 7 of the Clausura 2023 tournament.

Without Mexican teams, the squad led by Ángel Villacampa not only had a feast, but also kept up an undefeated pace and reached 17 units, one less than leader Monterrey, although they will have to wait for the results of the rest of the day. In contrast, Fernando Samayoa’s team has not yet found stability and remained in eighth place with nine points.

In the absence of striker Kiana Palacios, who played with Tricolor in the W Revelation Cup tournament, Martínez reemerged as a goalscorer. With barely 10 minutes on the clock, the forward scored the first goal at the Coapa facilities by connecting a header after a rebound in front of the goal.

The effort of the Potosinas was of little use to balance the score, as the Águilas were more skilful to hit the second target at minute 33. Montserrat Hernández filtered the ball with a long pass from the left side so that the American Sarah Luebbert closed the play with another header to shake the nets.

With their spirits up, the Americanistas were looking for more goals and put pressure on the visitors’ goal, but the goalkeeper from San Luis Potosí, Nicole Buenfil, was key in stopping the attacks by the capital.

However, shortly before the break, another celebration broke out. Faced with a defeated defense, Sabrina Enciso sent a cross and the French Aurelie Kaci (45 + 3) scored the third goal by pushing the ball from the heel.

The Eagles remained in control of the game and on more than one occasion were close to increasing the lead. Martínez was one of the most dangerous elements with another header, which was stopped by Buenfil.
