Wolf and Lainer have no chance with Gladbach

For the ÖFB legionnaires Hannes Wolf and Stefan Lainer there is nothing to get at the start of the 22nd round of the German Bundesliga against Mainz 05.

About a week after the brilliant 3-2 win against Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach lost 4-0 away and slipped down to ninth place. Both Wolf (up to the 66th) and Lainer (up to the 80th) are substituted in the second round. After the home win against the “foals”, the jubilant 05ers pass the table and temporarily occupy seventh place.

Keeper Omlin has to go down injured

After a mixed initial phase with a few inaccuracies, the 05ers take control of the game. Gladbach wobbles as a result and has to accept the 0: 1 after 25 minutes. Jae-sung Lee is left completely alone in the penalty area after a cross from the right and heads in for the lead.

For the “foals” it was twice as bitter shortly afterwards: Keeper Omlin had to leave the field injured – substitute Sippel was now between the posts.

Teenie Weiper sealed Gladbach’s bankruptcy

Shortly after the restart, ex-Salzburger Stefan Lainer is involuntarily the center of attention: the ÖFB legionnaire is put under pressure in front of his own sixteen and an attempt at a pass ends up with the opponent. Ingvartsen benefits from a blocked shot by his team-mate Ajorque and slides in to make it 2-0 (49′).

Mainz remains the more dangerous team as a result, while Gladbach lack the ideas to develop a goal threat. The home team takes advantage of the opponent’s counter-vulnerability – Ajorque makes the third stroke perfect. The winter newcomer from Mainz celebrates his debut goal in the German Oberhaus (72nd). The only 17-year-old Weiper makes the horror evening of Gladbach perfect, sets the 4-0 final point (90+4).
