“Intervening for the first time”

Pascal Jansen was dissatisfied with referee Dennis Higler’s performance after the lost match against Feyenoord. The AZ coach thought that the 1-1 of the team from Rotterdam should not have been approved, because Marcus Pedersen had made hands just before.

“I’ve seen it. I also asked the referee at halftime”, the AZ coach says ESPN. “He judged it as a ball falling on his arm, twice, but with the arm at his side.” Higler and the VAR did nothing during the incident, which Jansen does not understand. “Looking at it now, I think you can still intervene for the first time.”

Jansen had hoped that his team would come out better. “You play a solid away game in a full Kuip. Well, you should enjoy it then. We did that a little too little and showed a little too little ourselves. There was a phase in the first half where I felt we were falling too far back. With my boys I saw that they did not use the spaces that were there enough on the ball and the purity on the ball (79%) was far below our level.”

Jansen saw Feyenoord level with a goal from Alireza Jahanbakhsh just before half-time and indicated that AZ should not be put off by this. “I also stated that at halftime. Just go ahead, put the pressing high.”

The AZ trainer does not look back on a high-quality match. “I think that both teams have felt a bit of tension, although it is a bit more difficult for me to judge Feyenoord, of course.” Jansen does not want to think about a championship. “We haven’t talked about the title anyway, but it is of course annoying that you lose your points in this way. We will simply continue with the mission we are on and ensure that we recover next week.”
