The quarrels about the control body at the Hamburg second division club have been settled. Ex-national player Jansen vacates his place at the top for Michael Papenfuss. However, the eV remains at the controls.
Nfter months of quarreling, the football club of the second division club Hamburger SV has finally found its supervisory board. As the club announced on Monday, Michael Papenfuss will lead the six-member body as the new chairman. Other members are the eV President and Papenfuss predecessor and HSV President Marcell Jansen, Stephan von Bülow, Markus Frömming, Henrik Köncke and Hans-Walter Peters. The shareholders agreed on this at their general meeting.
Ex-professional Jansen had been sharply criticized in advance by investor Klaus-Michael Kühne and other shareholders. The fact that he is now being replaced at the top of the supervisory body must be seen as a compromise between the different camps. The 68-year-old Papenfuss is a treasurer on the executive committee of HSV eV, which is the largest shareholder in the AG.
Andreas Peters, who was originally supposed to continue, and Lena Schrum, who is considered a Jansen critic, no longer have a place on the supervisory board. The mandate of Detlef Dinsel, who was controversial among shareholders and colleagues on the supervisory board, had already expired. After criticism from members, fans and shareholders, he had decided not to run again.
The currently vacant seventh seat is to be filled at short notice. “We have a fixed process behind the filling of a seat on the supervisory board, which we will adhere to according to the statutes of our association,” Papenfuss was quoted as saying in a club statement.
The new head of the supervisory board hopes that there will be a little more calm around the former Bundesliga dinosaurs: “I am very pleased that we were able to reach a consensus in coordination with the shareholders and after many differentiated internal discussions,” said Papenfuss: “It is good and important that we take a joint path that focuses on the future of HSV Fußball AG and the interaction between the club and the other shareholders.”
Two points ahead
The association was under time pressure – if a new supervisory board had not been found, important decisions could not have been made. The previous mandate expired in February. In terms of sport, the team is fighting for promotion, most recently there was a draw with the leader in Darmstadt. The gap to third-placed Heidenheim is only two points.
