Ex-Salzburg captain Ibrahim Sekagya becomes coach in New York

Ibrahim Sekagya is starting his first permanent head coaching job with immediate effect!

The 42-year-old former FC Red Bull Salzburg defender, who played a total of 223 games – some of them as captain – for the “Bulls”, has been appointed as the new coach of the New York Red Bulls’ second team.

Sekagya has been an assistant coach at the New York Red Bulls II since retiring eight years ago, and over the past six months he has been acting as interim head coach for the young “Bulls” from New York City. Now he aims the team successfully through the first season of the newly created MLS Next Pro, which consists largely of second-team teams from MLS clubs.

“I’m really excited to continue my journey with the New York Red Bulls and lead the New York Red Bulls II to success. I can’t wait for the season to start and to demonstrate all the work we put in over the winter brought us to put a balanced team on the pitch,” says Sekagya, pleased about his new appointment.
