Everyone to play at Club Badminton Oviedo: expands its competition teams to four with a second set of territorial league

While the options of reclassifying its Honor Division team for the title qualifiers over the weekend, Club Badminton Oviedo remains firm in the social objective that it set itself several seasons ago: giving the opportunity to compete to all those who want to do it, regardless of their age or level. This campaign is the first that the CBO has four teams playing: the aforementioned Division of Honor, the Second (renamed First Gold) and two others in the territorial league.

CBO Joint formation of the two regional category teams: standing, from the left, Joachim Jakubit, coach; Miguel García, Isabel Luque, Paloma Río, Elena Blanco, Blanca Prada, Benjamín Pérez and Alberto Zapico, coach. On their knees, Iria Juncal, Daniel Álvarez, Yago García, Lucía Álvarez, Mireya Pérez and Roberto González.

In this last competition lies the novelty. Last season the club already had a team in the regional division, dedicated to adults, and this course has chosen to launch the youngest promises into the ring. “It is the first year that the two come out; last season the profile was more for adults, and in this we have incorporated another one for smaller ones. They are trained by Alberto Zapico and the adults by Joachim Jakubit”, explains the club’s sports director, César González, who specifies: “one is for players who are older in quotes, people in their twenties or thirties who started training recently, and the other with people between the ages of 16 and 18 who have a good level but are not yet ready to go up to national, and even smaller. Yago, for example, is 14”. Both teams compete as Caja Rural Oviedo.

In the territorial category, it is the only one in which two teams from the same club are allowed to compete simultaneously. Although the immediate result is not in this case an objective in itself, one of those teams could go up to First Bronze. In Primera Oro, the classification of Oviedo B stands out, right now in third place, although it could not be promoted as the first team was in the Division of Honor.

As for the top-flight team, the club is calmly experiencing a transition course that could still bring some joy. It depends on the other result of the group, but there are many options that Oviedo enter the playoffs for the title if they beat San Fernando on Saturday. But that is not the most important thing, explains César González: “We are gaining experience, and this year Pelayo and Vicente have made their debut, for example. Kristi is already much better than when she returned. The idea is to get kids so that in two or three years we can qualify for the title”.
