We all know Gert Verheyen as an ex-Club player and football analyst. At the moment he can often be seen on screen in ‘Over De Ocean’, where he goes on a big sailing trip with Ella Leyers and Annelien Coorevits, among others.

In the program, Ella Leyers has made a podcast with Verheyen’s three sons. Earlier, the analyst revealed to Ella that he has very little contact with his children, and would love it if they called more often.

Now his three sons say exactly the same about him: “So he is also working on it himself and he also regrets that the contact is not there… But even then he always lets it come from us!”

That message clearly hit hard. Verheyen still has a hard time with the fact that he left his family about twenty years ago. He will never forget the day he left: “That’s not what you want, but it was your choice.”

Verheyen mainly looks into his own bosom when he talks about the incident: “Ultimately it is my own fault… If you left your wife and children yourself, that is a feeling of guilt that you always carry with you.”
