Earthquake in Turkey and Syria, victims and survivors in the world of sport

AGI – The terrible earthquake in southeastern Turkey is a tragedy that has also affected the sports worldinvolving athletes involved in professional football, volleyball, basketball and handball leagues.

In recent days, the rescue of the Hatayspor and former Chelsea player has made headlines Christian Atsu. Hatayspor are engaged in the Turkish first division where they represent one of the provinces hardest hit by the earthquake and the tearful appeal launched by coach Volkan Demirel, goalkeeper of the Turkish national team for years, went around the net in the first hours following the disaster. But not everyone managed to avoid the massacre. The goalkeeper of Malatyaspor, another Turkish second division team, Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan, was pulled lifeless from the rubble yesterday. Turkaslan was the second goalkeeper of the team that played in the Serie A championship last year, only to then relegate to Serie B at the end of the season. The body of the goalkeeper born in 1994 was found in Malatya, one of the ten provinces affected.
