Several clubs will connect in a video conference tomorrow, Wednesday. Her favorite on the Bobic legacy: Klaus Filbry.

“The DFL general meeting will decide on the successor on the DFL supervisory board in March,” says the DFL press release on Fredi Bobic’s departure from the supervisory board. Bobic, four days earlier dismissed by Hertha BSC as sporting director, resigned from his position at the DFL in accordance with the statutes.

The “Mittelstand” group meets on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the “Mittelstand” group, which includes several clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga, comes together. This association succeeded the “Team Marktwert” founded in March 2016. This team fought for a “contemporary distribution model that went beyond the mere evaluation of table positions” when distributing the media and advertising revenues centrally marketed by the DFL. After a temporarily heated argument, the key to the distribution of this income in favor of the “medium-sized companies” in the Bundesliga and the clubs in the 2nd division was slightly modified.

Klaus Filbry, CEO of SV Werder Bremen, was one of the founding members of “Team Marktwert” in 2016 alongside representatives of Hertha BSC, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburger SV, 1. FC Köln and VfB Stuttgart. It is not surprising that the “Mittelstand” group obviously wants to set the course for the election of Klaus Filbry to the supervisory board on Wednesday.

League investors and media revenues from 2025 as the most important topics

Filbry, who is a member of the DFB board as a representative of the DFL, could have a decisive say in this position on the current issue of the league investor (will be presented to the DFL Supervisory Board and Executive Committee on Thursday this week) and in the future distribution of the proceeds generated by the DFL from the marketing of the media rights from the 2025/26 season.

The fact that “medium-sized companies” have called their own conference could lead to new disputes in the society of the 36 professional clubs and corporations of the DFL. Some club representatives have expressed their displeasure with kicker about the video conference scheduled for an hour on Wednesday in the run-up to the general meeting on March 22nd.
