Daniil Medvedev speaks at the ATP 250 in Doha

Daniil Medvedev has once again won the battle against the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinal of the ATP 250 in Doha. In a meeting that has opted for the Russian side for 6-4 7-6(7), Medvedev He continues on his way to reconnect with his tennis and reap better results than in 2022. And it is that both met last week in Rotterdam, with victory also for the Russian, but, on this occasion, Aliassime he was about to send the match to the third set. However, the authority of Daniel sealed the match. After prevailing today, the Russian tennis player has been very satisfied with his performance. In addition, he has praised Andy Murray and the goal this season is to surpass last year’s. As a reward, tomorrow he will play his second consecutive final against the British.

Maintains a 6-0 record with Aliassime

“There is probably something in the tactics and in the game that I am doing well against him (Aliassime) and it is enough to beat him. But at the same time I have always said that the H2H is not decisive, each match is a new one. For example, with Zverev I was 5-1 at some point in his favor, and then I made it 6-5 in my favor and now it’s 6-6. So you can change. But I’m happy to have 6 wins against him. Every time we play I try to win. Each match is a new story and we have had tough matches. Once he was up two sets to nothing and had match points against me in Australia. He is a tough rival”.

Medvedev praises Murray’s great performance

“The way he played and the way he’s won his matches is unbelievable. Today I don’t think anyone could have thought of that when they were 5-4, 40-0. Sometimes we have comebacks in tennis, but normally there is no tournament where you save three match points, beat Zverev 7-5 in the third set and save 5 more match points. Andy is amazing and I’m going to have to do my best from the first to the last point tomorrow to try and win. I hope it will be a great game”.

Very happy with the organization of the ATP in Doha

“I like it a lot. The hotel is great and the transportation is good. What more can be said? The food is good and there are plenty of tracks to practice on. I don’t think tournaments need much more to be good, but those little things are important to players. I think some like the hotels better, others the slopes, but everything is good here. Everyone had told me that there is a great organization, but I had never had the opportunity to come, due to the calendar or for different reasons. I’m enjoying it and I’m happy to be in the final”.

What is your favorite Grand Slam?

“For me the Australian Open and the US Open because they are on hard courts. Roland Garros and Wimbledon are great tournaments. But when asked what my favorite slam is, I don’t really have an answer. I won the US Open, but I can’t say it’s my favorite. They are all great to play. I want to achieve great results in all of them. But in terms of the game, I think it’s the one that suits me best, although every year the balls change and the surface changes too, so I don’t know what I’ll say when I’m 35 years old”.

Your goals this season? Exceed in the big tournaments

“Play my best tennis like I’m doing. I’m very happy. I have managed to make two finals and I want to do better than last year in the Masters 1000 and Grand Slams. But it is not easy. Everyone you face is going to try to beat you and play nice. Players start to get to know how you play, so you have to change all the time and adapt as well. So my goal is to show my best tennis, which sometimes I couldn’t do during the last year and I know that when I show my best tennis I am dangerous for everyone. That’s when I can get good results.”
