Bossi’s 100 appearances in Pallacanestro Trieste: «I want to stay»

TRIESTE Important birthday for Stephen Bossi who on Sunday, against Armani Milano on the parquet floor of the Allianz Dome, will celebrate his 100th appearance in front of his fans with the Trieste basketball shirt.

Prestigious goal for a player who is experiencing a difficult season, crushed by a competition that has taken minutes away from him, relegating him to a supporting role.

Yet, despite the scarce use, Bossi’s presence remains important in the locker room as confirmed by the club by removing him from the transfer market and underlined by Marco Legovich at the end of the last match won by Trieste against Naples.

«Stefano is a precious person for this group – the words of the coach – because in training he is always ready and he is spending himself perfectly for the team. Knowing we can count on him is an added value for us: against Ge.Vi, last Sunday, we thought it could be useful due to his ability to play pick & roll against the different types of choices made by the defense of Naples and so it was. He interpreted the game in the right way and was rewarded with two baskets which allowed him to live the challenge as a protagonist ».

Grit, pride, passion and dedication to red and white colors. For Bossi to stay in Trieste, despite the many offers from the market, was a choice of the heart. «Not an easy choice – underlines Stefano – because the arrival of Ruzzier in the current championship has naturally changed my role within the group. I had to take a step back but I did it with serenity, due to the friendship I have with Michele and because his presence was important for the team. He turned our season around and I’m happy about that, for the club and for all the fans. Personally I tried to be as rational as possible, continuing to work hard and giving my best in every single workout. I want to be ready on occasions when, see last Sunday’s challenge, my contribution may be needed».

Cohesion and unity of purpose which are, without a doubt, among the great secrets of Trieste’s growth in this championship. After the shock start and the initial four consecutive defeats, the team changed pace by marching to play-off rhythm. «This is perhaps the most beautiful group I’ve found myself in since I started playing as a professional – confirms Bossi – We are happy together on and off the pitch, we love each other and this has helped us overcome the initial difficulties. The relationship between us can be seen on the pitch and helps explain the results we are achieving. In addition to this there is the sensational work that our technical staff is doing. The attention and meticulousness with which we prepare the matches is undoubtedly an added value».

However, where this Trieste will be able to arrive in the championship is still unknown. «It’s a question we asked ourselves in the locker room – concludes Bossi – even if in all of us there is the awareness of having to think first of all about reaching salvation. This streak of consecutive victories puts us in the position of not having to look at the results of the others but of being architects of our own destiny. We have a calendar that, in home games, can give us a hand. Exploiting it, even with the help of the fans who are returning to the building, can allow us to take the decisive step».
