Ball fractures in Hornets’ win over Pistons

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — LaMelo Ball hit six 3-pointers before suffering a broken right ankle in the third quarter as the Charlotte Hornets held on to beat the Detroit Pistons 117-16. on Monday to tie his fifth victory.

Terry Rozier had 22 points, Gordon Hayward had 19 points and rookie Mark Williams added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Charlotte, which remains next to last in the Eastern Conference standings — just ahead of Detroit.

Ball finished with 18 points, making 6-for-7 3-point attempts, his fifth straight game with at least five 3-pointers. But he was injured on a no-contact play in the third quarter, and after the game the Hornets confirmed it was a fracture.

Hamidou Diallo had 23 points and James Wiseman had his best performance since coming to Detroit from Golden State as part of a four-team trade and scored 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
