The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games (August 28 – September 8) have officially started for the parabadists. A pretty tricolor delegation had set sail for Vitoria, in the Spanish Basque Country, for the Spanish International Para badminton, level 2 event. For the occasion, many Asian leaders: Indians, Japanese, Indonesians had also made the trip.

In this already noted context, three Bretons in the running. In the armchair category (WH1), Agnieszka Etavard-Glemp (Trégor Badminton) played in singles and doubles ladies with Marilou Maurel. Not spoiled in the draw, since she notably played against the world number 1 Sarina Satomi in doubles, the Lannionnaise could not get out of the pools.

Two round of 16 on the clock for the Isérois of BC Kemperlé, Guillaume Gailly (SL4). In singles, he was stopped (21-11, 21-14) by Indonesian Setiawan, while in doubles, for a first alongside Ukrainian Oleksandr Chyrkov, he was eliminated (21-12, 21- 9) by one of the six Indian pairs qualified in quarters! “It’s a good singles tournament since I defend the points acquired last year, and I even get a little more, a priori”.

Second Spanish meeting in Toledo

Engaged, him, in two quarter-finals (single and double), the Bretillien licensed in Tarbes, David Toupé (WH1), hoped to reach the podiums. But the German Thomas Wandschneider (N.2) was too strong (0-7 in their duels now) for the 8th planetary player. Logic of the ranking also respected with Thomas Jakobs, since the Habs (N.8) were beaten by the Japanese pair number 3 in the world.

The Bretons, who will receive the reinforcement of the Bretilliennes Faustine Noël, Paralympic vice-champion in Tokyo in mixed, and Lénaïg Morin, will, for the most part, be back on the courts next week. Still in Spain but, this time, in Toledo, for a level 1 tournament.
