Genk loses Paul Onuachu and chips his replacement to Anderlecht
A financial jackpot, but a big sporting loss: the Pro League leader let his top scorer slip away on Tuesday. Paul Onuachu has signed for Southampton, which pays 18 million euros to secure his services. This is the second biggest outgoing transfer in the history of the Limburg club, after that of Sander Berge who left Genk for Sheffield United in exchange for a check for 22 million euros at the start of 2020.
And it is another Nigerian who joins Genk to compensate for his departure. Striker Tolu Arokodare was on track to sign for Anderlecht, but he finally opted for Genk. He arrives from Amiens, where he has scored 14 goals over the past two seasons. Two transfers that have yet to be formalized.
A narrow attacker for Anderlecht
Departures also at Standard and Anderlecht. Away from the A core of Liège for many weeks, Selim Amallah and Nicolas Raskin have found a new home base. The Moroccan international has signed for Valladolid, the Devil has joined Rangers. Wesley Hoedt has definitely given up on his Anderlecht adventure to join Watford. The Mauves who had to wait for the last minutes to finally find their new striker. It is Islam Slimani, former resident of Leicester, Monaco and OL in particular, and top scorer in the history of the Algerian selection who arrives at Lotto Park from Stade Brestois. Standard, for its part, announced the arrivals of defenders Brahim Traoré and Ibe Hautekiet.
Thorgan Hazard at PSV, Albert Sambi Lokonga at Crystal Palace
On the side of the Red Devils, several movements recorded during the last day of this transfer window. Thorgan Hazard, in lack of playing time in Dortmund, took the direction of the Netherlands: he is loaned to PSV until the end of the season. Six-month loan also for Albert Sambi Lokonga, who is temporarily leaving Arsenal for Crystal Palace. No transfer, however, for Dodi Lukebakio. Olympique Lyonnais pushed hard to try to bring in the Belgian striker, but came up against the categorical refusal of Hertha Berlin.
Chelsea’s last big check
In the international market, the main blows of the home stretch have been made by Bayern, Arsenal and Chelsea. The Bavarians have attracted Joao Cancelo, who will be loaned until the end of the season by Manchester City, the Gunners have brought in the Italian European champion Jorginho from Chelsea. And the Blues also signed one last big check. After very long negotiations, the London club has found common ground with Benfica for the transfer of Enzo Fernandez. The Argentinian world champion arrives in London for an amount of 120 million euros. If this transfer is confirmed, the Blues will have spent more than 600 million euros on the transfer market this season.
