A delegation of 128 athletes at the Quebec Games

The Est-du-Québec region will be represented by a delegation of 128 athletes at the 56e Final of the Quebec Games to be held from March 3 to 11 in Rivière-du-Loup. Of this number, 105 come from Bas-Saint-Laurent, and 23 from Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine. All the regional county municipalities are represented on the regional delegation.

The Eastern region will be represented in 16 disciplines spread over two competition blocks. In the first block, athletes from Eastern Quebec will compete in women’s curling, fencing, gymnastics, weightlifting, women’s hockey, figure skating, speed skating and taekwondo. During the second block, it will be the turn of athletes in badminton, boxing, men’s curling, men’s hockey, judo, artistic swimming, cross-country skiing and table tennis to defend our colours. The region is absent in four disciplines: wheelchair basketball, diving, ringette and trampoline.

To properly supervise this delegation on the technical and human levels, Loisir et Sport Bas-Saint-Laurent has set up a mission of 15 people to which will be added a team of 41 coaches and guides. Four employees of the Organizing Committee for the next Final to be held in Rimouski will be part of the mission team and will take the opportunity to observe for the next Final to be held again in the region next July. The mission will also be able to count on the expertise of four employees of Loisir et Sport Bas-Saint-Laurent in addition to the head of delegation.

Third postponement

After postponements in 2021 and 2022, the Organizing Committee of the 56e Finale of the Quebec Games in Rivière-du-Loup is ready to welcome young Quebec athletes. It is with great enthusiasm that the Est-du-Québec region will finally host the 18 other regions. The region will be housed at Collège Notre-Dame, while the feeding site and the Athletes’ Village will be at Rivière-du-Loup high school. There will be plenty of action nearby and the vast majority of athletes will be using active transportation to get to their competition site.

For the first time since the winter of 2001, athletes from Eastern Quebec will have the chance to perform at home in front of family and friends. Josée Longchamps, the head of delegation, invites the local population to visit the various competition sites to encourage our athletes.

The Est-du-Québec region will be very active on social media and via its website on www.estduquebec.com. On the site it will be possible to get the results, the latest news and photos.
