VfB Stuttgart has already signed loan player Anthony Rouault (22), Deniz Undav (27) should and wants to stay and now the Bundesliga third-place finisher also seems to have nailed Leonidas Stergiou. According to consistent reports from “Sky” and Fabrizio Romano, the Swabians have drawn on the 22-year-old defender’s purchase option agreed with FC St. Gallen 1879 for 2 million euros. VfB has not yet confirmed this, but sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth recently indicated it.

Stergiou, who is tied to his Swiss training club until 2025, is said to have signed a contract with the upcoming Champions League participant that is valid until 2028. The Swiss U21 international has appeared in 18 competitive games so far this season (one goal). Most recently, Stergiou started five times, four times at right-back and once inside. With the successful development, the right-footed player could once again be a winner in the VfB jersey in the upcoming Bundesliga market value update.

Three players around Haraguchi are leaving VfB Stuttgart – Leweling should stay

While Stergiou will probably continue to play for Stuttgart in the future, Genki Haraguchi (33), Roberto Massimo (23) and Lilian Egloff (21) will probably leave at the end of the season. The trio’s contracts expire on June 30th and, according to Sky, will not be extended. Together, the professionals will only play 202 Bundesliga minutes in 2023/24; for Egloff and partly for Massimo, this was also due to several more serious injuries.

Also still without a contract with VfB is winger Jamie Leweling, who showed great improvement, particularly in the second half of the season. The 23-year-old loanee from Union Berlin has now scored four goals and seven assists in 33 league games; Leweling has been on the roster since the beginning of April.

There have recently been different statements as to whether the purchase option agreed with the Iron team for a rumored 5 million euros will be exercised. According to “Bild”, VfB was still in doubt two weeks ago as to whether it should activate the clause. Since qualification for the premier class has been secured, these thoughts are said to have disappeared. As with Undav, the supervisory board must first agree to Leweling’s firm commitment, according to the newspaper.
