STY Makes Sure Indonesia Doesn’t Park Buses Against Vietnam in the AFF Cup

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Coach Indonesian National team Shin Tae Yong refused to mention that he would again apply the bus parking strategy against Vietnam in the first leg of the 2022 AFF Cup on Friday (6/1).

The existence of the bus parking strategy was revealed by the Vietnamese media. This reflects on the meeting in the 2020 (2021) AFF Cup group stage. At that time Indonesia played behind closed doors and ended in a 0-0 draw.

“There will be no such thing as bus parking. That is due to an increase [performa] from our players are also good and we are confident we can get better. So we will play normally as usual,” said Shin, Wednesday (4/1).

In the four group stage matches, the Red and White team did not play negatively at all, including against Thailand. Fachruddin Aryanto and his friends played attack.

During the group phase Indonesia collected 12 goals and conceded three times. This makes the Garuda squad runner up in Group A even though they have the same points as Thailand, namely 10 points from four matches.

Meanwhile, Vietnam was the only contestant in the 2022 AFF Cup who did not concede a goal during the group phase. Park Hang Seo’s team won three times and drew one, and scored 12 goals.

These statistics make The Golden Dragon more favored over Indonesia. Moreover, Vietnam is currently the team with the best ASEAN ranking in the FIFA rankings, which is in 96th position.

History also records that Park Hang Seo’s Indonesian National Team has never won. The first meeting in the 2022 World Cup Qualification was won by Vietnam 4-0 and the 2020 AFF Cup ended in a 0-0 draw.
