South American Sub-20: Peru vs. Colombia

The Colombian National Team defeated Peru 2-1 this Saturdayin his first victory in the South American Sub-20 that is being played in Cali, Valle del Cauca.

With a brace from Óscar Cortés, those led by Héctor Cárdenas prevailed at the Pascual Guerrero stadium and remained partial leaders of group A.

Dieter Vásquez discounted for the Peruvian team, a result that placed them in second place in the so-called ‘group of death’where there are also Brazil and Argentina.

With a run over start and without emotion, Peru opened the scoring. After a goal kick by Sebastián Amasifuen, the ball bounced and landed at the feet of Jeffrey Cabellos, who in turn assisted Vásquez Soto.

The attacker made a balloon to Kevin Mantilla and then finished off to beat the goalkeeper Luis Miguel Marquinez with a rebound ball.

The ‘coffee growers’ turn came towards the end of the first half. Leader Gustavo Puerta recovered a ball, rolled it around the center, getting his rivals out of the way and sent a perfect pass to Óscar Cortés. The midfielder tied the score with a mid-distance whiplash that was impossible for the Peruvian goalkeeper.



The Inca team had dominated the first part of the game against an imprecise and lukewarm ‘tricolor’ in attack.

But the passage through the showers gave a new air to the hostswho squandered several golden opportunities, until they finally conceded the winning goal.

A corner kick from Gustavo Puerta aimed directly at Óscar Cortés, who struck down the rival goal in turn and defined the final score.

The Colombian artillery this time did not miss the star Jhon Jáder Duránwho had to leave the call to appear with his new team, Aston Villa of England.



Peru was injured after losing 3-0 against Brazil, while Colombia had drawn 1-1 with Paraguay.

Earlier this Saturday, the Guarani beat Argentina 2-1. Brazil rested on the second day of Group A.

The first three classified in the group will play the final hexagonal in Bogotá to dispute the title, one of the four places in the World Cup in Indonesia and one of the three tickets to the Pan American Games in Santiago-2023.
