It was found that soccer and futsal were the top sports for joining sports clubs for life.

According to the 2022 National Life Sports Survey (September 2021 to September 2022) announced on the 12th by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on 9,000 citizens aged 10 and older in 17 cities and provinces across the country, sports clubs (school clubs, Including sports clubs), the subscription rate was 16.9%, up 3.4 percentage points from the previous year.

The most registered sports were soccer and futsal, which accounted for 18.4%. It was followed by golf (16.7%), badminton (9.7%), bowling (7.7%) and tennis (7.1%).

Swimming (9.2%) was ranked first as the sport they would like to do if they had free time, and golf (16.2%) was ranked first as the sport they would like to do if they had more money.

In the same survey, it was found that the participation rate of the Korean people in daily life sports was 61.2%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points from the previous year’s survey.

The rate of participation in sports for all means regular physical activity for at least 30 minutes once a week. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism analyzed that although it did not reach the level before Corona 19, it is showing signs of recovery.

The participation rate of people in their 30s was 65.3%, up 7.8 percentage points from the previous survey, the highest among all age groups.

However, participation in sports among teenagers, who had the lowest participation rate in sports for all ages, emerged as a homework task. The participation rate of teenagers in life sports was 52.6%, which was below the average.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is actively supporting designated sports clubs and professional sports organizations such as sports organizations to provide various sports programs by sending professional instructors during school regular classes and after school hours to increase the participation rate of teenagers in sports.

In addition, through the promotion of the ‘National Incentive Project for Exercising’ (up to 50,000 won per person) and the introduction of additional income deductions for sports facilities, the basis for improving the national physical strength is laid, and the ‘senior-friendly type’ (three centers in 2023) is provided to meet local demand. He said that he plans to support the expansion of public sports facilities by developing a new type of national sports center.
