Quarterback Matthew Stafford is expected to return to the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, despite his heavy injury history.

Good news comes and goes for the fallen defending NFL champions. On Friday, their head coach Sean McVay announced that he would be back behind the bench next season.

According to ESPN, the City of Angels team used their option year in Stafford’s contract and will give him a guaranteed $62 million over the next two seasons.

Since his debut in the Goodell circuit, the former Detroit Lions suffered a significant number of injuries. He was particularly bothered by problems with his shoulder and elbow.

The day after was brutal for the Rams after winning the Super Bowl. Decimated by injuries, they finished third in the NL West with a 5-12 record.

Stafford was among the cripples, having missed the last seven games of the season. He had 2,087 passing yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games.

The Rams were also deprived of the services of their star players Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald during this poor campaign.
