Public Ministry wants Rui Pinto arrested for the crime of attempted extortion – Portugal

Public Prosecutor Marta Viegas began by saying that “Rui Pinto took advantage of his computer knowledge, which he acquired self-taught, to access computer systems and servers, without authorization”.

The prosecutor ruled out public interest invoked by Rui Pinto and that he published the information “selectively, with a view to obtaining an equity advantage”.

For the magistrate, it was also proved, on trial, that the creator of Football Leaks, with lawyer Aníbal Pinto, carried out the attempted extortion of the Doyen fund, as stated in the accusation.

“He intended to have access to a large amount of information, not available through open sources. He thought that the authorities would never reach him. He was particularly cautious. Defendant Rui Pinto says that he did not act alone, but does not say with whom. We don’t even believe it’s plausible. He doesn’t hold conversations with anyone. During the trial, it appears that he is the one who has all the technical skills”, said the prosecutor, who believes that the defendant acted alone and that he has no accomplices.
