PSG: Achraf Hakimi named Arab sportsman of the year during a sumptuous ceremony in Riyadh

Achraf Hakimi will not have missed his sixteenth in the Coupe de France for nothing. Authorized to stay in Saudi Arabia to attend the Joy Awards ceremony, which rewards personalities from the Middle East, the Moroccan side of Paris Saint-Germain received the title of best Arab sportsman of 2022, this Saturday. A trophy he shared with his mother.

At the announcement of his victory, the player indeed got up with her, then invited her to come on stage with him. While he gave a speech to the assembly, the latter, visibly moved, stood behind him, with the trophy in their hands. “I am delighted to be here, in this very special country, then declared the player at the microphone. Crowned French champion last summer with PSG, Hakimi was also rewarded for his fine career in the World Cup, completed in the semi-finals. In total, a dozen trophies honoring sporting and artistic successes in the Arab world were to be awarded during its Joy Awards. The ceremony took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with several celebrities in the audience, including Mel Gibson or Georgina Rodriguez, wife of Cristiano Ronaldo. The latter also opened the ceremony with a video message.

Excused by his club to be able to attend, Hakimi should be back in training with his PSG teammates on Sunday. He should not make the trip to lens on Monday for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France against Pays de Cassel.
