Schladming 2023: races, start times, transmission

The Ski World Cup in Schladming 2023 is a little different this year than in previous years.

In addition to the classic slalom, the legendary night race, the Schladming 2023 program also includes a second race this time: a giant slalom. This is the first time that a giant slalom will take place in the Ski World Cup in Schladming.

Schladming 2023 will open on the Planai with the slalom on Tuesday (January 24). The giant slalom will take place on Wednesday (January 25, 11:30 a.m.).

The start times for the slalom and giant slalom are identical on both days. The first run begins at 5:45 p.m., the second and final run starts at 8:45 p.m. Both races take place under floodlights.

The two Schladming 2023 races on the Planai will be shown on free TV and via live stream.

The Schladming 2023 broadcast is live in Germany Eurosport to see. In Austria, the slalom night race and the night giant slalom are held in ORF broadcast live.

Because Eurosport also about DAZN can be received, this year’s Schladming races will also run in full length on the well-known and chargeable sports streaming service.

There will be no Schladming 2023 broadcast on the German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. Neither from slalom nor from giant slalom.

Schladming Tickets 2023

Tickets for the World Cup men’s night giant slalom on January 25 are still over thenightrace.at available.

Tickets are also still available for the annual night race, the men’s night slalom on January 24th.

The Schladming Slalom 2023 favourites

The list of favorites for the Kitzbühel 2023 slalom on the notorious Ganslernhang is quite extensive. It is led by the two Norwegians Henrik Kristoffersen and Lucas Braathen.

Kristoffersen and Braathen have won four of the five slalom runs so far this World Cup season – Braathen has won twice (Val d’Isere and Adelboden), Kristoffersen has won twice – in Garmisch and most recently in Wengen.

Kristoffersen has also won the Schladming Nightrace three times. This is also why he will be listed as the top favorite in the Schladming 2023 Slalom betting odds.

The only non-Norwegian slalom winner this winter was the Swiss Daniel Yule, who was victorious in Madonna di Campiglio.

In addition to the top trio, a tip on Manuel Feller could be an option for the Schladming 2023 bets. The Austrian finished second in the top 3 in two of the four slaloms of the season. He also has the public on his side on the Planai.

With Linus Strasser there is also a German hope of winning the Nightrace 2023. Strasser won the Schladming Slalom last year. He finished third twice this season, most recently in Adelboden.

Schladming 2023: Favorites & betting odds for the giant slalom

After the cancellation of the men’s World Cup races in Garmisch, Schladming takes over the organization of this FIS World Cup giant slalom. This will be held as a night race with floodlights.

As at the 2013 World Cup, the start of the FIS World Cup giant slalom will be around 200 meters above the slalom start at the Kesslerbrücke.

A mobile floodlight system will be installed over a length of around 350 meters in the upper section of the route. 10 masts with 12 headlights each ensure the best visibility for the runners.

Since some slalom runners are also world leaders in giant slalom, there is a chance that someone will win twice on the Planai 2023. Like Henrik Kristoffersen.

Giant Slalom Favorites & Betting Odds

The Norwegian was still without a win in the five RTL seasons so far, but he was third once and second in the last three giant slaloms.

The dominator in the giant slalom is the Swiss Marco Odermatt, who won four of the five races in this World Cup winter. Most recently, he won the classic in Adelboden.

Other Schladming co-favorites for the giant slalom are the Norwegian Lucas Braathen (the only winner of the season who is not called Odermatt) and the Slovenian Zan Kranjec, who has two podium places in the course of the season.

Germany’s best skier Linus Strasser is not as strong in the “giant” as in the slalom and therefore has almost no chance of winning.
