Press release: Sere A Baseball: formula and calendar launched – Press releases

The President of Fibs Andrea Marcon, together with the Federal Council, met, by videoconference, the thirty companies registered in the Serie A championship to illustrate the formula, in light of the defections of Dragons Castelfranco and Academy of Nettuno.

No upheaval, but several adjustments, starting with the division of teams: from the four groups we have moved to six groupings of five teams, which between 15 April and 13 May will compete in a one-way group, with two matches a week , one of which is reserved for the AFI launcher. The first two will be eligible to participate in the championship poule, the remaining three will play the relegation poule.

The second phase of the season therefore also changes: from 27 May (a break is scheduled for 20 May and could be a useful date for Parma’s recoveries and advances before the Champions Cup) the ten promoted to the Scudetto poule, divided into two groupings, will take the field three times a week (two with the free pitcher, one with the AFI pitcher), with round-trip matches. The top four in each group will qualify for the playoffs. And here comes the first real novelty: the quarter-finals are scheduled from mid-August, to the best of five matches (with the eventual match 5 scheduled for August 21st).

The winners will play, between August 24 and September 3, the semifinals, best of seven games, which will choose the participants in the Italian Baseball Series 2023, scheduled from September 6 to 15. Five of the seven games, as with the semifinals, will have free pitchers.

POULE RElegation. As for the relegation poule, the twenty remaining teams will be divided into four groups of five teams, which will play two games a week, home and away, and a one-way inter-group phase. The bottom of each group will be relegated.

The six qualifying groups were presented at the meeting, with the 2022 semi-finalists placed in the first four groups. We then continued following both the criterion of merit and proximity.
