Julia Grabher Forced to Withdraw from French Open: Austria’s Tennis Hopes Rest on Other Players

Julia Grabher has to forego competing in the French Open.

Austria’s number one, currently ranked 159th in the world after a break due to a wrist injury, would have been able to take part in Roland Garros due to her protected ranking, but according to the Austrian Tennis Association (ÖTV), she will now have to miss out.

After pain occurred, bone marrow edema in the striking hand was diagnosed, which resulted in another break.

Still winless after comeback

In her comeback attempt, Grabher had played three tournaments at a lower level and remained winless. The 27-year-old also had no success in her appearances at the Billie Jean King Cup tournament in Oeiras in Portugal in April.

After their absence from the second major of the year, the Styrian Sebastian Ofner is now the only ÖTV player with a fixed singles place in the French Open main draw. On Wednesday (today), Dominic Thiem, Filip Misolic, Dennis Novak and Sinja Kraus will be competing for a place in the third and final qualifying round. The draw for the main draw is scheduled for Thursday (2 p.m.).
