Another incident involving a drone has occurred in the Premier League. The aircraft caused an interruption at FC Southampton’s home game. The professionals had to go into the cabins until the police gave the all-clear. For Jürgen Klopp there was a point for the 1000th game.

KStrange incident in the Premier League match between FC Southampton and Aston Villa: Because a drone was sighted in St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, the hitherto goalless game had to be temporarily stopped in the first half. Referee Michael Salisbury sent both teams into the dressing room after around 40 minutes. Viewers were asked to wait.

After consultation with the police, the players were allowed back on the pitch a short time later. Despite the incident, only two minutes were replayed at the end of the first half.

It wasn’t the first time a Premier League match had to be paused because of a drone flight. A similar incident happened during Brentford FC’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers last season. At that time, however, the interruption lasted much longer.

Liverpool with a point on Klopp’s anniversary

It was a used afternoon for Southampton. In the second half, Ollie Watkins (77th minute) scored the winning goal for Aston Villa. Particularly bitter for the hosts: A supposed goal by James Ward-Prowse (62nd) was disallowed for a previous foul in the penalty area after video evidence. The Saints remain bottom of the table.

Jürgen Klopp missed a win in his 1000th football game as a professional coach. His Liverpool FC did not get more than a 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Saturday at their own stadium. Both top clubs, which have so far fallen far short of expectations this season, missed out on taking a decisive step out of the crisis. The gap to the international places is getting bigger for Liverpool and Chelsea.

“The 0-0 is fine for me,” said Klopp after the final whistle on the broadcaster BT Sport. “I said before the game we have to be ready to take small steps. Keeping a clean sheet against Chelsea is a small step.” Similarly, Chelsea coach Graham Potter said: “All in all a positive day apart from the fact that we wanted three points.”
