Petrov expects Red Bull Racing to dominate the coming seasons

Former Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov expects Red Bull Racing to continue winning the constructors’ championship in the coming years. According to the Russian, the formation from Milton Keynes has all the necessary resources.

Red Bull Racing became the constructors’ champion for the first time since 2013 last season, after Mercedes dominated the previous eight years. However, the Silver Arrows had a very difficult start to the new era in Formula 1 in 2022, while Ferrari mainly killed its own title hunt with a combination of strategic misses, personal mistakes and reliability problems. Red Bull Racing also had a rough start to the season, but unlike the competition, performance there went uphill.

Big advantage Red Bull

Max Verstappen was thus able to become world champion for the second time in a row with the drivers, while Red Bull Racing dominated with the constructors. Petrov suspects that this will continue to be the trend in the coming years: “Why not? Red Bull has the resources,” he says Sport Express. “It’s a great team with great professionals and they have a lot of money. They know exactly what they want and how to proceed. When a team works with a specific car manufacturer, that team has its own unique developments. That’s a big advantage, but it doesn’t mean the other teams don’t have a chance.”

Tired of domination

Petrov, active between 2010 and 2012 as the first Russian Formula 1 driver ever, therefore does not rule out that Mercedes will return to the top: “Maybe they will be in the lead again this year,” he says. “Certainly it is not, but there are opportunities. And about the dominance… Everyone was criticizing Mercedes, and now Red Bull will win the Constructors’ Championship for a few years in a row and there will be talk of that dominance. “We are tired of Red Bull, time for someone else.’ Fans and journalists never change in that respect, but that’s understandable. People need emotions and a show. That’s what sport is all about.”
