Paula Badosa will miss the Australian Open

Two days before her debut at the Australian Open, Paula Badosa has confirmed that she will not be at the first Grand Slam of the season because of a muscle injury in her left leg that already forced her to leave without playing the semifinals of the Adelaide 2 tournament. The Catalan tennis player suffered a breakdown in the quarter-final match in which she defeated the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (7-6, 7-5).

“Bad news… During the quarter-final match in Adelaide I got hurt and after the results of the tests, I will have to be out for several weeks… Sad to miss a tournament I was looking forward to . I will do everything in my power to return as soon as possible” he wrote on social networks.

Out of the ‘top 20’

Badosa, currently number 13 in the world, will have to be out for several weeks. The injury is a blow for the tennis player who last year had won the tournament in Sydney before the Australian Open where she reached the round of 16. Badosa will fall out of the ‘top 20’ of the WTA ranking. After his withdrawal, which is added to that of Carlos Alcaraz, world number 1, Garbiñe Muguruza, Nuria Parrizas and Cristina Bucsa will be the only three Spanish tennis players in the Australian Grand Slam.
