Chris Ford, a Villanova– Graduate, nicknamed “Mad Bomber,” scored Boston’s first three-pointer in the 114-106 win over the Rockets on October 12, 1979, ushering in what is now the NBA’s three-point era.

He played ten seasons in the league between 1973 and 1982, averaging 9.2 points per game at the league Pistons and the Celtics. In addition to his throwing prowess, Ford ranked 60th in NBA history averaging 1.6 steals per game and won the 1981 NBA title with Boston.

Chris Ford: Successful coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Ford embarked on a long and successful coaching career. As an assistant to the Celtics, he won the title in 1984 and 1986, and as head coach he made four postseason appearances.

He also coached for two seasons Bucks and for two seasons the Clippersbefore starting his coaching career with the 76ers finished.
