Mikaela Shiffrin has matched the record for victories in the Alpine Ski World Cup held by his compatriot Lindsey Vonn by winning his 82nd victory in the competition by winning the giant slalom this Sunday at the Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) event.

The 27-year-old American won the test ahead of the Italian Federica Brignone and the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami. Two Olympic victories, six world titles and 82 World Cup successes endorse Shiffrin’s supremacy in alpine skiing.

Since her downhill success in 2018, the American Vonn tops the list of best women of all time. The men’s historical record is still held by the Swede Ingemar Stenmark, with 86 victories. Shiffrin, who celebrated his eighth win of the season in Slovenia, could reach this mark soon.
