Liverpool eliminated after defeat at Brighton

Defending champion Liverpool lost in added time to Brighton (2-1) on Sunday in the 16th final of the FA Cup. Nothing is going in favor of the Reds this season: after briefly leading the score and regaining some attacking momentum, they cracked in the last moments against one of the teams in form at the moment.

Facing a side that have scored 20 goals in their last six games, including a 3-0 win over Liverpool in the league, called ‘the worst game I’ve ever seen coming from one of my teams’ by Klopp, the Reds did not deserve, but they lose their best chance to win a trophy this year.

Mitoma makes Brighton happy

While we were heading straight for a parity score, the meeting again tipped in the wrong direction for Liverpool. On a free kick, the ball reached Pevis Estupinan who gave a bell on the other side of the goal for Kaoru Mitoma. The Japanese, after having controlled, had the presence of mind to add a second juggling to eliminate Joe Gomez before scoring from outside the right, at the corner of six meters (2-1, 90 + 2).

Author of six goals and two assists in his last eleven matches, Mitoma is the symbol of this Brighton team which has fully recovered from the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea at the start of the season to flourish even more under the orders of Roberto de Zerbi.
