Throughout his unparalleled 20-year career, LeBron James has made it a habit to torment his opponents nightly. On Tuesday he finally crossed the last team off his list.
James scored 46 points, converted 16 of 29 shots from the field and hit nine three-pointers in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-133 loss to the Clippers. Previously, the Clippers were the last of 30 NBA franchises James had yet to play a 40-point game against.
LeBron James will go down in NBA history
James is now the first player in NBA history to score a game of 40 points or more against any franchise. Prior to Tuesday’s game, James had averaged 24.1 points per game in 40 encounters with the Clippers – his lowest pointing average against an opponent.
That metric has now climbed to 24.6 points per game, which is the second lowest tally ahead of the Pistons. It took James 69 games to his first 40-point performance when he scored 41 points against the Nets on March 27, 2004. It was the only 40-point performance in his rookie season.
Los Angeles Clippers win again against Lakers
The Clippers immediately took command on Tuesday, starting the game on a 9-0 run and extending their lead to 23 points at halftime after scoring 19:38 from behind the three-point line. The Clippers have now beaten their city rivals ten times in a row.
