Hard blow to Chilean tennis: suspended three years for doping

Felipe Hernández (1,179° ATP) joins the list of cases of athletes punished for doping. The 22-year-old Chilean tennis player had been provisionally suspended in June last year, a sanction that has now become final and will keep him off the court for three years.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed the news in a statement. “In December 2022, the player admitted to both the presence and use/attempt of nandrolone in breach of articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the TADP of 2022″, is part of what the international organization mentioned.

It is also noted that the original penalty for this type of case is four years, but upon acknowledging the offense, that penalty is lowered, as occurred in the case of Hernández. “However, Article 10.8.1 of the TADP provides for a one-year reduction based on admission and acceptance of a sanction.” In this way the player will not be able to play again until July 21, 2025.

This case joins other national tennis players who were also punished in 2022. Bastián Malla was suspended for a month for marijuana use, while Bárbara Gatica is still awaiting a resolution for a possible use of boldenone, a prohibited substance and for which she alleges contamination in consumed meat.
