Former tennis world number 1 Ashleigh Barty is soon to be a mother

Since her retirement last March, Ashleigh Barty has lived far from the tennis courts. Very discreet about her private life, the 26-year-old former tennis player rarely shares her daily life. But this Friday, the Australian announced happy news to her subscribers, she is expecting her first child with her husband Gary Kissick.

“2023 should be the best year yet. We are so happy with our new adventure. Origi (their dog, editor’s note) is already a protective big sister,” wrote the champion in the caption of a photo of Origi next to a pair of baby shoes. A happy event that has something to delight fans of the former player.

Ashleigh Barty and Gary Kissick said “I do” to each other at an intimate ceremony in July in Queensland. The couple met in 2016 at Brooklands Golf Club in Australia during a golf tournament. Since then, they have never left each other.

“I wouldn’t want to share this adventure with anyone else”

In January 2022, in the columns of the Australian edition of the magazine “Vogue”, Ashleigh Barty had indulged in a few rare secrets about her love story. “He is extremely patient with me. When we met, he didn’t know much about tennis. He had to kind of learn on the job, understand what tournaments are and how separate we could be for a long time. But it was perfect in the sense that it allowed me to disconnect from tennis and be able to have fun. I certainly wouldn’t want to share this adventure with anyone else.

In March 2022, then at the height of her glory, Ashleigh Barty surprised the tennis world by announcing her retirement from sport at just 25 years old. “I am so grateful for everything tennis has given me, it has allowed me to achieve all my dreams and more (…) But I know that the time has come for me to step away, to pursue other dreams and put down the snowshoes,” she said in a video.
