Gianluca Vialli has died

He scored 16 goals in 59 international matches for Italy and was a member of the Azzurri at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups. He has a bronze medal from the 1990 home championship.

At the end of December, it was announced that Vialli was stepping down as team manager with the Italian team in order to recover from his pancreatic cancer treatment.

With the Italian national team, he was reunited with head coach Roberto Mancini, his former team-mate at Sampdoria, and until the last moments, he hoped to be able to return to his role with the team.

“You will be missed by many people. You are a legend for us and for all of football. Rest in peace, Gianluco Vialli,” wrote Chelsea Football Club on Twitter.
