First steps for Franz after a serious injury

The convalescent ski racer Max Franz took the next step on the long road to a comeback after his horrible fall during downhill training in Copper Mountain (Colorado) in November. “It’s an amazing feeling to be able to stand on your own two feet again and take your first steps. Doesn’t look quite round yet, but it’s extremely important for my head,” wrote the Carinthian to a video on social networks.

That gives him strength for the next few months of therapy. Since the fall, Franz has been dependent on a wheelchair. The speed specialist suffered an open fracture on his left lower leg, including a severed nerve, and a complicated fracture on his right ankle. He received first aid in the USA, and several operations were carried out at the UKH Steiermark in Graz. “My first steps on the long road back…” wrote the 33-year-old, winner of three World Cup races and a bronze medal at the World Downhill Championships.
