EL NUEVO DIARIO, LA VEGA.- With the teams of the Bárbaros, Panteras, Escuadrón, Internacionales and Infieles, the XV edition of the Carnival Basketball Tournament 2023 will be inaugurated tomorrow, Friday, with the option of the Joaquín Vásquez Cup, dedicated to Tony Peña Guaba, coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet of the Presidency.
This was reported by Francisco Núñez, director of the traditional vegan event, who said that the opening is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the field of the La Matica club, a clash between Penteras and Bárbaros.
He pointed out that the four classified teams will face each other in the semifinals A and B, agreed upon for the best of three games, and a grand final for the best of five games.
He recalled that it will be played on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:00 p.m.
Núñez also highlighted the dedication of the fair to a figure like Tony Peña Guaba, coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet, who has been a faithful ally to the sport.
“The organizing committee of this event unanimously chose the figure of Peña Guaba to dedicate this tournament to him, in which the Joaquín Vásquez Cup will be played”, he stated.
During the activity at the Lite Lounge restaurant, Luis Montero and Dr. Sonía Mejía presented the Joaquín Vásquez cup to the organizers of the event. The press conference was also attended by Arnaldo Rodríguez, president of the Basketball Association of this vegan city.
Núñez took the opportunity to thank in advance the support for the development of the fair from the Social Policy Cabinet of the Presidency; Municipal Council of La Vega, in the person of engineer Kelvin Cruz; Peme Baseball Academy, Dominican National Brewery, Dominican Port Authority, Dominican Municipal League, Induveca, Idopril, Novoclinic, Industrial San Miguel del Caribe and Golden Jewelry.
