Espanyol contests the derby for “improper alignment” of Robert Lewandowski

Espanyol believes that the Barça striker should have served his punishment in the derby. The white-and-blue club warns that it will use “all the resources” at its disposal to defend its interests. “This flagrant injustice puts the essence of our competition at risk and is based on a hasty resolution with obvious legal deficiencies”, they stated in a statement issued this Monday, two days after no parakeet emissary attended the Camp Nou as a sign of protest

“We believe that we must do what we have done, which is to defend our interests and those of the competition. Barça has legitimately done what it considered it had to do to promote its interests, but we consider that it goes against ours and the interests of the competition. This path, for us, is very dangerous. They will have to say what route the letter takes to the RFEF. But they will also have to speak out and explain how they will defend the interests of clubs that, like us, could not appeal the day before a match”, added Espanyol sources to ARA. It should be remembered that a shortly before the game the RFEF Competition Committee met in an extraordinary way to study the precautionary measure against Lewandowski. The state concluded that it could not do against the resolution of an ordinary and non-sporting instance.

Lewandowski remains suspended for three matches, but could play this Sunday’s game against Atlético de Madrid at Cívitas Metropolitano if the precautionary measure remains in force. If he finally disputed the commitment, the punishment would have to be served in the consecutive League commitments, which in this case are against Betis, Getafe and Girona.
