Eighth place for Kuldīga in the European Chess Championship – Other sports – Sportacentrs.com

In the competition organized by the European Chess Union (ECU), 51 participants took part in the fair sex group, including four female players: WGM Dana Reizniece-Ozola (2265), WFM Linda Krūmiņa (2073), Marta Kāne (1836) and Nellija Maklakova (1817).

Each team could have four participants at the tables (computer screens) at the same time. Kuldīga’s team, which played in the premises of the city’s old Needle Factory, won nine team points, but the team from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, became the champions with 16 points out of a possible 18, to which the ladies of Latvia lost in the last round.

Individually, Nellie Maklakova was the best of our team, with nine points out of 16. Krūmiņa and Kāne each got eight, but the team’s number one Reizniece-Ozola, who faced the strongest opponents, collected seven points.
