double resignation at the top of the American federation

A new crisis broke out Thursday within the American football federation (US Soccer) which announced the departures of the sports director of the Federation and the general manager of the national team, already deprived of a coach. The first, Earnie Stewart, will join Dutch club PSV Eindhoven on February 15, and the second, Brian McBride, has resigned. In the statement from the federation, Stewart explained that he does not “could have refused“this work proposal”exciting” in the Nederlands. The reason for the second’s departure has not been revealed.

On January 5, US Soccer had already decided to withdraw national coach Gregg Berhalter, on the bench at the recent World Cup, for acts of violence in 1991 against a young woman, his girlfriend at the era that has since become his wife. Berhalter, who led the selection to the round of 16 in Qatar, was out of contract.

US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone told an online press conference that she would take her time with their replacement nominations. “We won’t rush“, she said, hoping that the next coach is hard at work”by the end of summer“. US Soccer chief executive JT Batson has claimed the Berhalter case has nothing to do with Stewart and McBride’s decision to leave the organization. The United States will co-host the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico.
