Novak Djokovic He overcame the controversy in which his father was involved and reached his tenth Final of the australian open with a 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 victory over the American Tommy Paul.
Djokovic, nine-time champion of the tournament, will face the third seed of the tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipasin the decisive match on Sunday, after the Greek qualified for his first Final by beating the Russian Karen Khachanov in the previous semifinal.
The Serb’s father Srdjan, created a distraction for his son before the semifinal after coming to light a video in which he was seen posing with fans carrying Russian flagsprohibited in Melbourne Park at the beginning of the tournament. For this reason, he did not go to tonight’s game.
In the previous Semifinal, Tsitsipas defeated by 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-7(6) and 6-3 to Khachanov, 18th seed, closing in on world number one.
The Hellene, who had fallen three times in the Semifinals in Melbourne Parkwould snatch the number one from the Spanish Carlos Alcarazabsent from the tournament through injury, if he wins his first Grand Slam crown on Sunday.
“I would like to have that number. These are the moments I’ve been working hard for, to be able to play finals like this, but finals that have a bigger meaning than just the final. I’m fighting for number one. It’s a dream of childhood reach number one someday, I’m close”, Tsitsipas said.
